From the 10th of September 2007 the Government made a compulsory requirement to have an Energy Performance Certification (EPC) on every home coming onto the market in England and Wales The EPC shows the current and potential Energy Efficiency rating and the CO2 Emissions of a property. The EPC will also make various recommendations on how you can improve the ratings of a property.
Penalty
If you choose not to have an EPC issued where appropriate trading standards officers have the right to issue a fixed penalty notice of £200 for domestic properties. Tenants who have not received an EPC have the right to contact trading standards and report the discrepancy.
